Frequently Asked Questions

Where do River Retreats take place?2019-12-03T13:17:43+00:00

The retreat is taking place on Whittington’s Tea Barge which is moored up beside Hills Meadow Car Park, George Street, Reading RG4 8DH. This is a pay and display car park which will cost £9 for the day. It is also just a 10 minute walk from Reading train station and there is a nearby bus stop. When choosing your transport, please consider a glass of Prosecco is served with lunch, and an afternoon cocktail is included. Non-alcoholic options will be available.

What should I wear?2019-12-03T13:23:45+00:00

The day is about relaxation and comfort, so please dress accordingly. You may wish to bring a waterproof jacket if rain is forecast and you wish to go outside. Soft soled flat shoes are best. No heels please. We encourage people to come with little or no make-up.

What should I bring?2019-12-03T13:23:19+00:00

You will be fully catered for during the retreat. You do not need to bring any money (apart from for parking) as once you are onboard everything you need is included in the day. You may wish to bring a rug/blanket and cushion as you may have the opportunity to sit on the riverbank or out on the front deck. It is also sometimes nice to wrap a blanket around you during the relaxation session as body temperatures can drop when deeply relaxed. Please bring a mat if you wish to do some outdoor yoga in your free time. A towel will be provided.
There will be free time during the afternoon for guests to spend as they wish. We encourage guests to consider any activities which have fallen by the wayside because life has become too busy. Photography, arts and crafts, puzzles, writing, poetry, yoga, meditation, reading etc.

We shall ask that all mobile phones are switched off or kept on silent and only be used discretely if absolutely necessary. The day is about leaving the daily grind behind.
Please refrain from bringing unnecessary valuables. We can accept no responsibility for any lost items.

Storage space is limited on the barge so small hand luggage only please.

What is your cancellation policy?2020-01-18T14:25:50+00:00

• Cancellation 7 – 13 days before retreat date – 70% refund
• Cancellation 1 – 6 days before retreat date – no refund

Transfer of a guest’s name may be made up to 9am on the day of the retreat.

What is accessibility like?2019-12-03T13:24:29+00:00

The barge is accessed via one step up onto a short wooden walkway with a handrail. There are two steps down onto the front deck, followed by two further steps down into the barge through a low door. Once we are moored on the riverbank, guests will be required to step directly from the barge to the riverbank and vice versa. There are toilet facilities on board which due to the configuration of the barge are relatively confined.

What happens if the weather is poor?2020-01-18T14:26:35+00:00

All of the River Retreat activities will be subject to weather and river conditions which are beyond the control of River Retreats. If it is not deemed safe to leave the moorings on the day of the retreat, the retreat activities will still take place without the river cruise. In the unlikely event that this should happen, the time spent cruising will be replaced with additional activities.

What are the timings for the day?2019-12-03T13:19:29+00:00
